Question 1

How accurate is the Rulers Map?

Accepted Answer

Every ruler entry is cross-checked against more than one source before it’s accepted, and every correction found is logged publicly rather than fixed quietly. See the Sources & Methodology page for the full approach and a list of corrections made so far. That said, this is a small, curated dataset built by one person, not a peer-reviewed academic database - it’s accurate for what it covers, not exhaustive.

Question 2

Why does the map only cover six years?

Accepted Answer

Kings of History carries six hand-built century snapshots (500, 750, 1200, 1500, 1700 and 1900 AD) rather than a continuous year-by-year record, because each entry is individually verified. Six well-checked years were judged more useful than many unchecked ones. More snapshot years may be added over time, at the same verification standard.

Question 3

What does "schematic, not geographic" mean on the map?

Accepted Answer

Marker positions on the Rulers Map place each polity roughly in the right part of the world, but they are not plotted to a real map projection or precise borders. Treat the map as a stylised layout for comparing who ruled where at a glance, not as a cartographically accurate historical atlas.

Question 4

Is this a real, operating product or a demo?

Accepted Answer

Kings of History is a working demonstrator, not an operating business - stated plainly on the About and Acquisition & Partnership pages. The Rulers Map, Comparative Analysis, Fact vs. Fiction and Global Dynasty Index tools are genuinely live and fully functional (the Dynasty Index draws on live Wikidata rather than this project’s own hand-verified dataset - its own page explains that distinction); the membership plans shown describe an intended commercial model, not something you can currently subscribe to.

Question 5

How does Fact vs. Fiction decide what counts as accurate?

Accepted Answer

Each entry is checked against consensus historical fact-checking - the kind of reporting found across mainstream film/history journalism - rather than a single outlet, and each is tagged Historically Accurate, Dramatized, or Largely Fictional based on how closely the film follows the documented record. The set is deliberately small (six titles) so each one can be covered thoroughly.

Question 6

Does this site track or store my data?

Accepted Answer

Browsing sets no cookies and collects nothing about you - there is no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. If you choose to create a free account, we store your email, a hashed password, and the items you explicitly save; signing in sets a session cookie, and signing out deletes it. The Global Dynasty Index loads portraits from Wikimedia Commons, so that page (and only that page) discloses your IP to Wikimedia. The Privacy Policy sets all of this out in full.
